Inbox - The Week's Whisky News (November 10, 2017)

Welcome to Inbox.  For those new to WFE, Inbox is our weekly round up of whisky news and PR material that has found its way in to our email inbox. It was created as we cannot write full articles or do justice to every piece received. It features items from around the world of whisky and is published by us each Friday.

Within Inbox we aim to write a few lines detailing each press release/piece of news/PR event that we have received and provide links, where possible, for you to find out further information.  This is the news that has grabbed our attention this week.

________

Lagavulin
The Islay based distillery of Lagavulin has announced that it is adding a new whisky to its core range of single malts. The Lagavulin 8 years old was originally launched in limited quantities last year to celebrate the diatillery's 200th anniversary, but has proved so popular that it has now been made permanent. As with the anniversary release, the new whisky is inspired by legendary Victorian whisky writer Alfred Barnard. He visited Lagavulin on his travels and sampled an 8 years old, describing it as "exceptionally fine".

The new version of Lagavulin 8 years old will be initially available in specialist retailers within selected markets (including Canada, Europe, Japan, Taiwan and the USA) from mid-November. Further markets will then come on stream in early 2108. It is bottled at 48% ABV and has a recommended price of £47.

“Our aim for the 200th Anniversary was to bring Islay to life for as many people as possible, and by re-releasing this bottling as a permanent offering in our portfolio, we’ll be able to continue sharing Lagavulin’s heritage across the globe for many years to come.”
Richard Walker - Global Head of Malts at Diageo.
