This new single cask bottling from the small independent Islay distillery of Kilchoman is the third to be released by leading retailer The Whisky Exchange. Bottling took place just over 10 years later on 24 November 2017 and it is one of the oldest Kilchoman's to have been released to date. The single cask is bottled at the natural cask strength of 58.5% ABV and is of natural colour and non chill-filtered. Our Top 10 Whiskies of 2017

Well, it is that time again - the time when we reveal our Top 10 whiskies from the previous year.  This always proves to be one of the most fun posts to write and one of our most popular with readers.  It also allows us some time to reflect on what has happened during the whisky year.  Personally we attended over 70 events or whisky shows, numerous press trips and distilleries, and sampled and reviewed nearly 100 whiskies.

2017 seemed to be a year that continued the innovation and experimentation of 2016. This saw big brands and smaller producers alike pushing the boundaries and released a wide spectrum of products to an ever-growing consumer base.  Some of these products have impressed us and are included in our Top 10.  Could they become modern classics? Only time will tell.

Review - The Ballantine's Single Malts

The blended Scotch brand have entered the single malt category with the release of three whiskies. These are from three of the most important distilleries that contribute single malt to the Ballantine's blended range - Glenburgie, Glentauchers and Miltonduff. All are from the Speyside region and bottled at 15 years of age. They are each presented at 40% ABV and will be available in Asia through travel retail, before seeing a global domestic market introduction. The price will be £42 ($56 US) each.

Distillery Visit - Glen Ord

The Glen Ord distillery is located on the edge of the north Highland village of Muir of Ord. On a bleak October afternoon, and with a couple of spare hours to hand, I decided to take the short but scenic train ride from Inverness. The visit was one of nostalgia. Much like the trip to Glenmorangie earlier in the year, Glen Ord was one of the first distilleries that we visited on our fledgling whisky journey.
