Inbox - The Week's Whisky News (May 18, 2018)

Welcome to Inbox.  For those new to WFE, Inbox is our weekly round up of whisky news and PR material that has found its way in to our email inbox. It was created as we cannot write full articles or do justice to every piece received. It features items from around the world of whisky and is published by us each Friday.

Within Inbox we aim to write a few lines detailing each press release/piece of news/PR event that we have received and provide links, where possible, for you to find out further information.  This is the news that has grabbed our attention this week.

________

Douglas Laing
Douglas Laing, the Glasgow-based independent whisky company and bottler, have announced a limited edition bottling of their popular Scallywag blended malt. The Scallywag 10 years old has been created using Speyside single malts and all have been matured using ex-sherry casks. It is bottled at 46% ABV and is non chill-filtered and of natural colour. There will be just 4,500 bottles and these will be available in selected specialist retailers worldwide and on www.douglaslaing.com. The price will be £50 each.

Glengoyne
The Highland distillery of Glengoyne have announced the latest release of their cask strength series. The Glengoyne Cask Strength Batch No.6 is the first in the series to be 100% matured in ex-sherry casks - a combination of first-fill European oak casks, American oak butts and re-fill butts to be precise. It is non chill-filtered and of natural colour, and bottled at the natural strength of 59.8% ABV. The Cask Strength Batch No.6 will be available via www.glengoyne.com and selected specialist whisky retailers in limited numbers. A bottle will cost £55.

Johnnie Walker
The best selling Scotch whisky brand of Johnnie Walker have announced a new initiative, named My Edition, that allows consumers to create their own personal whisky according to their taste preferences. The initiative is initially operating as a trial in Spain and the UK and allows participants to choose a series of five key flavour profiles to create their version of Johnnie Walker, before having the opportunity to add a personalised label. There is also an additional engraving option.

The initiative combines traditional craftsmanship and cutting edge technology and has been developed by Johnnie Walker, the Diageo Futures Team and technology partner Vivanda. To order your bottle, please go to the special Johnnie Walker My Edition website - click here. The whisky is bottled at 40% ABV and each will cost £75 or €90.

Royal Salute

The super premium blended whisky of Royal Salute have announced details of a very special bottling to commemorate the forthcoming Royal wedding between HRH Prince Henry of Wales and Ms. Meghan Markle. The brand has a long heritage of celebrating Royal occasions since its creation for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.

This Royal Wedding Edition, which is limited to just 70 bottles, has been created by the Royal Salute Master Blender Sandy Hyslop and uses only American oak casks, which is a first for the brand. It is housed in a handblown Dartington crystal decanter and a casket made from American oak. Both feature ornate decoration. Each decanter will cost $10,000 US and can be obtained from a small number of specialist retailers worldwide or through special enquiry at contact@royalsalute.com.
