There seem to be (at least) three different sizes!

Bruichladdich's Quarter Casks are stated as about 80 litres. (This is aprox the same size of a Kilderkin - half a British Beer barrel). At Ardmore and Laphroaig distillery they use Quarter Cask to refer to casks of size 125 Litres, a quarter of a sherry butt (500 litres). An American Quarter Cask is 50 Litres, which is a quarter of a standard whiskey barrel (200 Litres).Reb Mordechai Reviewshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16135349748761291865noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4015217478634912567.post-20613739398469105472013-11-19T22:54:31.898+00:002013-11-19T22:54:31.898+00:00Hi, great post, but I'm still confused. "...Hi, great post, but I'm still confused. "Sherry casks are usually larger than bourbon barrels and come in several different sizes. A HOGSHEAD holds 250 liters, while a BUTT is twice that size with 500 liters. Distilleries sometimes use other sizes (like the 450 liter PUNCHEON ) as well, but the vast majority of the casks are still barrels, hogsheads & butts" Source: http://www.maltmadness.com/malt-whisky/beginners-guide-05-maturation.html
Could you please comment it?Wiktorhttp://singlemalt.plnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4015217478634912567.post-28573731299785416532012-12-11T09:45:24.975+00:002012-12-11T09:45:24.975+00:00I'm quite sure Quarter Casks are a quarter of ...I'm quite sure Quarter Casks are a quarter of a Sherry Butt and not a quarter of a ASB. So they have a capacity of 125 litres. I verified this with an official clip about Laphroaig Quarter Cask and with the information on quartercasks.comAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4015217478634912567.post-44407432381969308162012-07-10T16:02:35.457+01:002012-07-10T16:02:35.457+01:00I really enjoyed your blog here.
