Inbox / The Week's Whisky News (March 12, 2021)

Welcome to Inbox, our weekly round up of whisky news and PR material that has found its way in to our WFE email. It was created as we cannot write full articles or do justice to every piece received. It features items from around the world of whisky and is published by us each Friday. Within Inbox we aim to write a few lines detailing each press release/piece of news/PR event that we have received and provide links, where possible, for you to find out further information.

Here is the news from this week ...

________

Redbreast
The Irish single pot still whiskey brand of Redbreast has announced the release of a limited edition one-off bottling that celebrates the 30th anniversary of Irish Distillers resurrecting the brand back in 1991. The Redbreast 10 years old features whiskeys distilled at the Midleton distillery in Co.Cork and matured solely in ex-Oloroso sherry casks for between 10 and 15 years. It has been created by Billy Leighton, the Master Blender for Redbreast, and Blender Dave McCabe. The packaging features a retro design that draws inspiration from when the 10 years old was last on the market in the 1950s and 60s.

Redbreast 10 years old is bottled at its natural cask strength of 59.1% ABV and is exclusive to members of The Birdhouse, the club for Redbreast fans, until sold out. A bottle will cost €100 and they are limited to two per person. To order yours now - click here.

"Since 1991, Redbreast has gone from strength to strength to become the largest selling single pot still Irish whiskey in the world. The fascinating and rich history gave us the opportunity to praise the iconic sherry influence on the range for this limited edition for The Birdhouse."
Dave McCabe.

Teeling

The Dublin-based Irish whiskey distillers of Teeling have announced a new distillery exclusive expression that will be released on St. Patrick's Day (March 17). The Teeling Irish Virgin Oak is a small batch bottling that shows the distinctive character of Irish oak, which is rarely used to mature whiskey. The whiskey is bottled at 46% ABV and is both non chill-filtered and of natural colour.

The Teeling Irish Virgin Oak will be available exclusively from the distillery's visitor centre. While this remains closed due to Covid-19 restrictions, sales will move online from the Teeling online shop. The exact number of bottles has not been revealed but each will cost €60.

"St Patrick’s Day normally marks the start of the traditional visitor season in Dublin but given the continuing challenges of 2021 we wanted to offer people a very unique bottle of our distillery-exclusive whiskey. We chose Teeling whiskey aged in virgin Irish oak barrels to celebrate all things Irish."
Jack Teeling - Founder & Managing Director at Teeling.
