Allotment Drams - Highland Park 12 years old & Glendronach 18 years old
We have the two latest episodes from our Allotment Dram series of whisky reviews and chat for you. In both videos Matt has chosen a whisky that have influenced us in our whisky journey. Firstly, he talks about and gives his tasting notes on the classic Highland Park 12 years old from the Orkney islands - one of the whiskies that got us interested in whisky.
Then he takes a look at the Glendronach 18 years old, a cult classic amongst whisky drinkers in the 'sherry bomb/sherry monster' genre of single malts. Watch as he gives background about the iconic bottling and gives his thoughts and tasting notes.

Review - Highland Park Twisted Tattoo
This whisky is a new single malt from the Orcadian distillery of Highland Park. It features spirit matured in first-fill ex-bourbon casks and ex-Rioja red wine casks - the first time they have used such wine barrels for maturation - and is bottled at 16 years of age. The packaging is inspired by the Nordic legend of the Midgard Serpent and features bespoke designs by tattoo artist Colin Dale. He is renowned for using traditional freestyle non-electric tattoo techniques and is inspired by the lost skin art of Inuit, Native American and Nordic cultures.

Review - Highland Park Dragon Legend
The Dragon Legend is a new expression that has recently been released by the Orcadian single malt whisky brand of Highland Park. It is designed to have a 'richer and smokier flavour' than previous expressions of Highland Park and is initially exclusive to UK supermarkets, including Tesco. Dragon Legend will then be rolled out to key European markets in early 2018. The name takes inspiration from the brand's Viking heritage and the tale of the evil serpent Fafnir. It has been matured in a combination of American oak and European oak ex-sherry casks, and is bottled at a strength of 43.1% ABV. The recommended retail price is £40.

Review - Highland Park Valkyrie
Valkyrie is the first in a new trilogy of single malts from Highland Park. Named as the Viking Legend series, the packaging has been created by renowned Danish designer Jim Lyngvild. He is a 21st century Viking and lives in a traditional wooden Viking house that he constructed himself near Faaborg in Denmark. He also lives as an ancient Viking for two months of each year and his designs pull on the brand’s Viking routes. Valkyrie was created by Gordon Motion, the Master Blender of Highland Park, and will be followed by two further editions, named Valknut and Valhalla, in 2018 and 2019.

How Did You Get In To Whisky?
* This article originally appeared on the Huffington Post UK on 19/4/17.
What turned you on to whisky? Was there one experience or a particular whisky you tried that got you hooked? What made the biggest first impression on you? How did you get in to whisky? These are questions that I get asked on a regular basis.
Getting started in the whisky world can be a daunting experience. I found it that way to begin with. There are lots of things that you hear or read that could be true, but you just do not know. These include numerous well-known stereotypes and opinions – Should I add water to my whisky? How about ice? Is single malt better than blended whisky? And so on.

Our Top 10 Whiskies of 2016
Well, it is that time again - the time when we reveal our Top 10 whiskies from the previous year. This always proves to be one of the most fun posts to write and one of the most popular with readers. It also allows us some time to reflect on what has happened during the whisky year. Personally we attended nearly 60 events or whisky shows, numerous press trips and distilleries, and sampled and reviewed over 100 whiskies.
2016 seemed a year of innovation and experimentation that saw big brands and smaller producers alike pushing the boundaries and released a wide spectrum of products to an ever-growing consumer base. Some of these products have impressed us and are included in our Top 10. They sit alongside more traditional whiskies that could well become modern classics.
Any Top 10 is always subjective and ours is no different. Our criteria generally include quality, value for money and availability. We are sure that some will agree with our choices and some will disagree - after all, it has happened every year that we have been doing this. This year's selection ranges in price from £25 to £16,000 a bottle. Here is our Top 10 for 2016 in alphabetical order.
