Inbox / The Week's Whisky News (December 3, 2021)

Welcome to Inbox, our weekly round up of whisky news and PR material that has found its way in to our WFE email. It was created as we cannot write full articles or do justice to every piece received. It features items from around the world of whisky and is published by us each Friday. Within Inbox we aim to write a few lines detailing each press release/piece of news/PR event that we have received and provide links, where possible, for you to find out further information.

Here is the round-up of this week's news ...

________

Bushmills

The leading Irish brand of Bushmills has released a rare expression of its triple distilled single malt - the Bushmills 27 years old Bourbon Cask. The new whiskey forms part of The Causeway Collection, which was recently launched. The liquid was distilled in 1994 and matured in re-fill ex-bourbon casks for the first six years. It was then transferred to first-fill ex-bourbon barrels from Kentucky for the final 21 years of maturation.

The Bushmills 27 years old Bourbon Cask is bottled at the natural cask strength of 52.1% ABV and is non chill-filtered. There will be just 678 bottles available and these will exclusive to travel retail in Ireland, specifically The Irish Whiskey Collection stores in Cork and Dublin airports. A bottle will cost €650.

In other Bushmills news, the brand has announced new bottle design and packaging for its core range. The design is said to be inspired by the Giant's Causeway, which is located close to the distillery in Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland. It will span the 10, 12, 16 and 21 year old expressions in the range and features broader shoulders on the bottle, plus embossing that highlights the brand's 1608 foundation date and pot still.

Glen Moray
The popular Speyside distillery of Glen Moray has released the latest bottling in its Warehouse 1 Collection - the Glen Moray 2008 Manzanilla Finish. It is the fourth whisky in the series, which is named after the warehouse where some of their experimental casks are maturing. The whisky was distilled in 2008 and has seen a finishing period in ex-Manzanilla sherry casks sourced from Cadiz in the south of Spain. The new release follows previous expressions featuring Sauternes and Tokaji dessert wine, plus Barolo red wine barrel finishes.

The Glen Moray 2008 Manzanilla Finish is bottled at the natural cask strength of 54.6% ABV and is both non chill-filtered and of natural colour. It is exclusive to the UK market via selected specialist retailers and the distillery shop in Elgin. A bottle will cost £75, although the exact number of bottles has not been revealed.
