Inbox / The Week's Whisky News (February 18, 2022)

Welcome to Inbox, our weekly round up of whisky news and PR material that has found its way in to our WFE email. It was created as we cannot write full articles or do justice to every piece received. It features items from around the world of whisky and is published by us each Friday. Within Inbox we aim to write a few lines detailing each press release/piece of news/PR event that we have received and provide links, where possible, for you to find out further information.

Here is the round-up of the news from this last week ...

________

Crabbie's
The Edinburgh-based whisky producer and bottler of John Crabbie & Co. has revealed details of the inaugural bottling from its Chain Pier distillery - the Crabbie's Chain Pier Lowland Single Malt. It is also the first single malt to have been produced in Scotland's capital for almost a century. The whisky features spirit distilled in 2018, which has then been matured in heavily charred virgin American oak barrels. The barrels have then been hand-selected by Dr. Kirstie McCallum, Master Blender for brand owner Halewood Artisanal Spirits.

Crabbie's Chain Pier has been bottled at the cask strength of 57% ABV and is both non chill-filtered and of natural colour. There are just 234 bottles in the inaugural batch and these will be available through selected specialist whisky retailers and Halewood's own retail website www.thedropstore.com. Each bottle will cost £65/ $89 US.

Glendronach
The east Highland distillery of Glendronach has announced two new releases this week - the Glendronach Cask Strength Batch 10 and Batch 19 of the Glendronach Cask Bottlings Series. The Cask Strength Batch 10 has been delayed by the Covid pandemic and has been created by Dr. Rachel Barrie, the Master Blender for Glendronach. The new no age statement release is constructed using whiskies of differing ages that have been maturing in ex-Oloroso and ex-Pedro Ximenez sherry barrels. It is bottled at 58.6% ABV and will be available in limited numbers in sleected markets worldwide. A bottle will cost £77/ $105 US.

The Glendronach Cask Bottlings Batch 19 features 12 single casks, each of which has been hand-selected by Dr. Rachel Barrie. All were distilled and filled between 1990 and 1994, and all are bottled at their natural cask strengths. These range from 50.7% to 57.9% ABV. Each bottling will be allocated to a specified world market. Prices range from £545/ $740 US to £1,035/ $1,405 US. A full listing of each cask are below.
