Welcome to Inbox, our weekly round up of whisky news and PR material that has found its way in to our WFE email. It was created as we cannot write full articles or do justice to every piece received. It features items from around the world of whisky and is published by us each Friday. Within Inbox we aim to write a few lines detailing each press release/piece of news/PR event that we have received and provide links, where possible, for you to find out further information.
Here is the round-up of the news from this week.
________
The Highland distillery of Glengoyne has announced the latest bottling in its popular Cask Strength Series - the Glengoyne Cask Strength Batch 10. The new bottling is no age statement and has been matured in both American and European oak. Cask types include first-fill ex-Oloroso sherry and ex-bourbon. The whisky marks a decade of such releases from brand owners Ian Macleod Distillers. The Glengoyne Cask Strength Batch 10 is bottled at 59.2% ABV and is available from the distillery visitor centre shop, online at www.glengoyne.com and through selected specialist whisky retailers in the UK. A bottle will cost £85.
"Each of the ten iterations in the Cask Strength Series has showcased the much-loved Glengoyne signature style – rich, sweet, and fruity. Batch. 010 is no exception and is a fitting way to celebrate the first decade."Katy Muggeridge / Brand Manager for Glengoyne.
Glenlivet
The popular Speyside distillery of Glenlivet has announced a new limited edition in its Distillery Reserve Collection - the Glenlivet 9 years old Beer Cask Finish. For the new release Glenlivet have teamed up with Scottish brewer Innis & Gunn to celebrate International Beer Day (today, August 4). The whisky has seen a short finishing period in ex-beer casks that have formerly held Innis & Gunn's 11% ABV Vanishing Point Imperial Stout. It is the first time that Glenlivet have used such a cask.
The whisky was filled to cask in May 2013 and bottled in December 2022. There are just 216 bottles and these will be available from the Glenlivet visitor centre at the distillery and via the distillery website. The Glenlivet 9 years old Beer Cask Finish is bottled at the natural cask strength of 57.8% ABV and will cost £95.
"At Glenlivet we strive to experiment, and working with Innis & Gunn’s wonderful casks was the opportunity to do just that, marking our first foray into finishing whisky in a beer cask. It is a wonderful, unique expression and has picked up the rich fruity, malty and hoppy notes from the beer."Kevin Balmforth / Cask Expert at Glenlivet.
