Welcome to Inbox, our weekly round up of whisky news and PR material that has found its way in to our WFE email. It was created as we cannot write full articles or do justice to every piece received. It features items from around the world of whisky and is published by us each Friday. Within Inbox we aim to write a few lines detailing each press release/piece of news/PR event that we have received and provide links, where possible, for you to find out further information.
Here is the round-up of the news from this week.
________
The Highland distillery of Aberfeldy has revealed the latest bottling in its Red Wine Cask Collection - the Aberfeldy 18 years old finished in ex-Cabernet Sauvignon casks from the Napa Valley in America. The series, which launched in 2019, showcases some of the finest wine barrels from wineries around the world. This new release has been created by Stephanie Macleod, the Malt Master at Aberfeldy. The Aberfeldy 18 years old limited edition is bottled at 43% ABV and is available in selected global markets including France, Germany, the UK and USA. A bottle will cost £115/ $US150.
Glen Scotia
The Campbeltown distillery of Glen Scotia has launched a 30 years old expression but in four different packaging designs. These have been created by artist Alice Angus, who spent several months in Campbeltown sketching and painting for the project. The four 'Spirit Safe' designs are named First Water, Heart of The Run, Labour of Years and Time & Tide. The whisky is the same in each.
The whisky was distilled and filled in 1989 - the year that Glen Scotia reopened after a five-year mothballed period and under new ownership. It has been maturing in European oak casks ever since and is bottled at the natural cask strength of 47.3% ABV. It is both non chill-filtered and of natural colour. Each design is limited to just 120 bottles, which are accompanied by the artwork on the labels and packaging. Each bottle will cost £2,000.
"This is a remarkable launch for us – not only are we unveiling a very special 30 years old single malt, but also this stunning packaging from our artist-in-residence and friend, Alice Angus. Her artworks are a reminder of the fascinating history of Glen Scotia through the ages."Iain McAlister / Distillery Manager at Glen Scotia.
