Inbox / The Week's Whisky News (January 20, 2023)

Welcome to Inbox, our weekly round up of whisky news and PR material that has found its way in to our WFE email. It was created as we cannot write full articles or do justice to every piece received. It features items from around the world of whisky and is published by us each Friday. Within Inbox we aim to write a few lines detailing each press release/piece of news/PR event that we have received and provide links, where possible, for you to find out further information.

Here is the round-up of the news from this week.

Bimber

The London-based craft distillery of Bimber has launched the fourth batch in its Spirit of the Underground series. The series is released in collaboration with Transport For London and each bottling features a different tube station. There will be 44 such bottlings once the series is completed. Batch 4 comprises of four central London stations on the Piccadilly Line - Green Park, Piccadilly Circus, Leicester Square and Covent Garden. Each is bottled from a single cask at its natural cask strength.

The Spirit of the Underground – Covent Garden is bottled at 59.2% ABV and is taken from an ex-Oloroso sherry cask. There are just 321 bottles. Green Park is released at 59.4% ABV and has been matured in an ex-Moscatel wine cask with 285 bottles. Leicester Square comes in at 60.3% ABV and is taken from a virgin American oak cask. It is limited to 271 bottles. Piccadilly Circus is bottled at 62.1% ABV and matured in an ex-Pedro Ximenez sherry cask, which has yielded just 314 bottles.

Batch 4 of the Bimber Spirit of the Underground Collection will be available via ballot from Monday 23 January on the Spirit of the Underground website. Each bottle will be on sale for £125.

"We have aligned the four single cask whiskies with four iconic Underground stations which all sit alongside each other on London’s Piccadilly line – the adjacency reflecting the full-term maturation and shared intensities that these exceptional casks all showcase."
Matt McKay / Director of Marketing & Communications at Bimber.

Woodford Reserve
The Kentucky whiskey brand of Woodford Reserve has announced its latest bottling in the annual Double Double Oaked series - the Woodford Reserve Double Double Oaked 2023 Edition. The series began in 2015 and was created by Master Distiller Chris Morris. The bottling takes Woodford's regular Kentucky Straight Bourbon and then finishes it for one year in heavily toasted and lightly charred American oak barrels. The Woodford Reserve Double Double Oaked 2023 Edition will be available in 37.5cl bottles and in selected US states. It is bottled at 45.2% ABV (90.4 Proof) and will cost $US60.

"We are excited to once again offer one of our most-coveted annual bourbon releases. This is the perfect winter bourbon with tasting notes of burnt marshmallows, cranberry and bittersweet chocolate."
Chris Morris.
