Inbox - The Week's Whisky News (March 2, 2018)

Welcome to Inbox.  For those new to WFE, Inbox is our weekly round up of whisky news and PR material that has found its way in to our email inbox. It was created as we cannot write full articles or do justice to every piece received. It features items from around the world of whisky and is published by us each Friday.

Within Inbox we aim to write a few lines detailing each press release/piece of news/PR event that we have received and provide links, where possible, for you to find out further information.  This is the news that has grabbed our attention this week.

________

Havana Club
OK, so this is a rum rather than a whisky but there is a link. The leading Cuban rum brand of Havana Club have announced the release of the third edition of their annual super premium Tributo bottling. The Tributo 2018 has been finished in smoky Scotch whisky casks, which is a first for the popular brand. Each release of Tributo is designed to pay tribute to different elements of the Cuban rum production process - this year honours the influences of casks and is enhanced with subtle peat smoke flavours.

Tributo 2018 was created by Asbel Morales, Havana Club Maestro del Ron Cubano, who hand selected various aged rums (including some of 60 years of age) and blended them together before finishing them in casks that had previously held smoky single malt. Tributo 2018 is bottled at 40% ABV and there are just 2,500 bottles. These are presented in a wooden box and will be available in 21 world markets shortly. The retail price will be €400 (£358).

"This rare rum finished in smoky whisky casks is a manifestation of our proud Cuban heritage interpreted for modern rum drinkers. We are confident that Tributo 2018 will appeal to whisky and rum connoisseurs alike."
Asbel Morales.

Jameson

The best-selling Irish whiskey brand of Jameson have announced a new marketing campaign, entitled 'Taste, That's Why'. The campaign will appear across TV and digital formats, plus social media in the USA from this month with a wider world roll-out in key Irish whiskey markets later in the year. The aim is to bring Jameson, which is produced at Irish Distiller's Midleton distillery near Cork, and associated serves to life with engaging and challenging copy.

"In this campaign we wanted to put the unique taste of Jameson centre-stage. This is the reason behind our success and why bartenders, whiskey lovers and premium spirits drinkers alike continue to discover Jameson. It was important for us to inject the light-hearted, humorous attitude of Jameson."
Simon Fay - International Marketing Director at Irish Distillers.

The 'Taste, That's Why' campaign is backed up by two short films, entitled Coopers and Scully. You can watch the Coopers film below. Enjoy.
