Inbox - The Week's Whisky News (February 28, 2020)

Welcome to Inbox, our weekly round up of whisky news and PR material that has found its way in to our WFE email. It was created as we cannot write full articles or do justice to every piece received. It features items from around the world of whisky and is published by us each Friday.

Within Inbox we aim to write a few lines detailing each press release/piece of news/PR event that we have received and provide links, where possible, for you to find out further information.  Here is the news that has grabbed our attention this week.

________

Glengoyne
The Highland distillery of Glengoyne has announced a special limited edition single cask bottling that honours a long serving employee. The 'Duncan's Dram' 17 years old pays tribute to Duncan McNicoll, the former Assistant Distillery Manager at Glengoyne, who recently retired after 43 years of service. McNicoll selected a single American oak ex-sherry butt (Cask #561) for the release and this was distilled and filled in April 2002. This butt has yielded just 520 bottles and these will only be available at the Glengoyne distillery shop or via www.glengoyne.com.

The Glengoyne 'Duncan's Dram' 17 years old is bottled at its natural cask strength of 57.3% ABV and is non chill-filtered and of natural colour. Each bottle will cost £189.

Wemyss

The family-owned independent bottler and whisky maker Wemyss Malts has continued its 15th anniversary celebrations with the announcement of a special edition - the Velvet Fig 25 years old.

The Velvet Fig was Wemyss' first blended malt when released back in 2014 and this limited edition has been created from five ex-sherry hogshead casks, all of which were distilled and filled in 1994, and sourced from un-named single malt distilleries in the Highlands and Speyside. These were blended with 15 older ex-sherry hogshead casks of unpeated Bunnahabhain that were distilled in 1988.

The Velvet Fig 25 years old is bottled at 42.3% ABV and is non chill-filtered and of natural colour. It is available now via www.wemyssmalts.com and will be also available in selected specialist whisky retailers worldwide. A bottle will cost £126.95/ $165 US.
