Inbox - The Week's Whisky News (April 10, 2020)

Welcome to Inbox, our weekly round up of whisky news and PR material that has found its way in to our WFE email. It was created as we cannot write full articles or do justice to every piece received. It features items from around the world of whisky and is published by us each Friday. Within Inbox we aim to write a few lines detailing each press release/piece of news/PR event that we have received and provide links, where possible, for you to find out further information.

In these unprecedented times, and for the foreseeable future, there may not be much brand news or many (if any) new releases. However, we will bring news whenever there is any and also be updating the blog regularly with reviews and tasting notes.

Most news this week continues to be about whisky companies of all sizes supporting the bar trade with money or the health services with alcohol for sanitation products. We are also now seeing many brands offering online tastings or experiences - there are too many to mention. Outside of that, there have been a couple of new releases reported ...

________

Character of Islay
Atom Brands, the owners of the Character of Islay range, have announced the addition of two new super premium whiskies to join the exisiting Aerolite Lyndsay 10 years old - the Grace Île 25 years old and The Legend of Fiona Macleod 33 years old. Both are single malts and continue the brand's play on the romanticism of the island of Islay. Each 'character' in the range is designed to show historical references to Islay's whisky history and the quirks associated with the Hebridean island.

The Grace Île (above) pays reference to the playful grey seals that frequent the waters around Islay and is bottled at 25 years of age. It has been matured for the full term in American oak and is bottled at 48% ABV. It will cost £299.95. The Legend of Fiona Macleod (left) refers to the pen name of William Sharp, a man who chronicled traditional Hebridean tales in the 19th century. It is bottled at 33 years of age and 46.3% ABV. It will cost £399.95. Both new whiskies are from un-named distilleries, are non chill-filtered and of natural colour. Both are available online via Master of Malt.

"Aged Islay whisky is increasingly hard to come by these days. Our two latest releases are continuous expressions and not just limited to batches and are very special propositions indeed. These whiskies capture a bit of the magic of Islay."
Dr. Sam Simmons - Head of Whisky at Atom Brands.
