Inbox - The Week's Whisky News (April 17, 2020)

Welcome to Inbox, our weekly round up of whisky news and PR material that has found its way in to our WFE email. It was created as we cannot write full articles or do justice to every piece received. It features items from around the world of whisky and is published by us each Friday. Within Inbox we aim to write a few lines detailing each press release/piece of news/PR event that we have received and provide links, where possible, for you to find out further information.

In these unprecedented times, and for the foreseeable future, there may not be much brand news or many (if any) new releases. However, we will bring news whenever there is any and also be updating the blog regularly with reviews and tasting notes.

Most news continues to be about whisky companies of all sizes supporting the bar trade with money or the health services with alcohol for sanitation products. We are also now seeing most brands offering online tastings or experiences - there are too many to mention. Outside of that, there have been a couple of new releases reported ...

________

Bardstown Bourbon Co.
The Bardstown Bourbon Company, which is based in Kentucky, has announced the latest release in it Collaborative Series. This has seen them team up with French Armagnac house Château de Laubade to produce an ex-Armagnac cask finished whiskey. The whiskey used was a 12 years old Indiana bourbon that was matured in American oak casks, before being transferred to the ex-Armagnac barrels for a final 18 month period. The Bardstown Bourbon Co. Château de Laubade has been bottled at 59.2% ABV (118.4 Proof) and will available in limited numbers in the USA. A abootle will cost $125 US.

Glenlivet

The famous Speyside single malt distillery of Glenlivet has revealed a set of new limited edition whiskies that will leave fans guessing. The Glenlivet Spectra is a set of three 20cl bottles that allow whisky drinkers to explore a wide spectrum of flavours via an immersive tasting experience. Each expression is a re-interpretation of Glenlivet's signature style and is released without tasting notes, age or cask information. It follows similar releases from the distillery in the form of Alpha, Cipher and Code.

Consumers are invited to sample Spectra 01, 02 and 03 and record finding through an interactive experience. Afterwards, they will be presented with a scorecard to show how close they are to the actual profile. The age and cask information of each whisky will be revealed later in 2020. The packaging also reveals subtle clues to aid consumers. Each whisky is bottled at 40% ABV and the 3x20cl pack is priced at £105. It is available through selected online spirits retailers.

"We have created an innovative whisky tasting experience across three single malts. Stretching our house style into three different whiskies that work together as a collection was a unique challenge. I hope whisky lovers enjoy exploring the spectrum of flavours, as much as I enjoyed crafting them."
Alan Winchester - Master Distiller at Glenlivet.

Spirit of Yorkshire
The English whisky producer Spirit of Yorkshire has announced details of its latest limited edition single malt - the Filey Bay Moscatel Finish. The whisky was filled to ex-bourbon barrels in 2016 before being transferred to ex-Moscatel hogsheads from Spain for finishing. There are just 6,000 bottles and these are currently available via their website - www.spiritofyorkshire.com. It is bottled at 46% ABV and is retailing for £60/ $74 US per bottle. Bottles of Filey Bay Moscatel Finish can only be pre-ordered at the moment and will be shipped once the Covid-19 lockdown has been lifted in the UK.
