Welcome to Inbox, our weekly round up of whisky news and PR material that has found its way in to our WFE email. It was created as we cannot write full articles or do justice to every piece received. It features items from around the world of whisky and is published by us each Friday. Within Inbox we aim to write a few lines detailing each press release/piece of news/PR event that we have received and provide links, where possible, for you to find out further information.
Here is the round-up of the news from this last week.
________
Douglas Laing & Co, the owners of Strathearn, have announced the launch of a single malt new make from the Highland distillery - The Heart. The new release is designed to offer an insight into the style of single malt that Strathearn will release when the spirit comes of age. The Perthshire distillery was independently founded in 2013 and then acquired by Douglas Laing in 2019. The name refers to the middle cut of the spirit distillation, which is commonly known as the heart. The Heart is bottled at the natural cask filling strength of 63.5% ABV and is released in 20cl sized bottles. The launch is limited to just 1,800 bottles with each costing £18.
"Strathearn spirit is the product of a truly traditional art. We nose and taste throughout every spirit distillation, paying close attention as we make our cut points. The new make spirit is a wonderful preview of the whisky we will enjoy in the future."Angela Brown / Head Distiller at Strathearn.
Following hot on the heels of last week's release of the Wire Works Small Batch is another new limited edition from the Derbyshire distillery - the Wire Works Cask Strength. It represents the first single cask release from the brand. The cask in question is an STR (shaved, toasted and recharred) barrel and this has yielded just 293 individually numbered bottles. The new whisky is released at its natural cask strength of 61.4% ABV and is both non chill-filtered and of natural colour. The Wire Works Cask Strength is only available via a ballot - this is open until midday on Monday, July 4. Details are available on the special page on the White Peak website - click here. A bottle will cost £75.
