Inbox / The Week's Whisky News (December 16, 2022)

Welcome to Inbox, our weekly round up of whisky news and PR material that has found its way in to our WFE email. It was created as we cannot write full articles or do justice to every piece received. It features items from around the world of whisky and is published by us each Friday. Within Inbox we aim to write a few lines detailing each press release/piece of news/PR event that we have received and provide links, where possible, for you to find out further information.

This will be the final Inbox of 2022 and it will return on the first Friday of January. We would like to wish all our readers a Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year. We hope that 2023 delivers everything that you want. Anyway, here is the round-up of the news from this last week.

Benromach

The independent family-owned Speyside distillery of Benromach has announced the release of a new single cask expression. Benromach - The Bartender's Edition has been developed in collaboration with Milroy's of Soho, the famous London whisky retailer and bar. The single first-fill ex-sherry hogshead cask was selected following several events that saw bartenders from across London assessing and analysing cask samples.

Benromach - The Bartender's Edition is bottled at the natural cask strength of 59% ABV and is both non chill-filtered and of natural colour. The single cask has yielded just 201 bottles and these will be on sale exclusively in Milroy's of Soho. It will also be served by the dram at selected London bars such as Black Rock, Publiq and Swift. A bottle will cost £79.95.

Dunville's

The Irish brand of Dunville's has announced three new additions to its award-winning single malt range - the Dunville's Palo Cortado 10 years old, Oloroso 20 years old and Palo Cortado 21 years old. These join the existing Pedro Ximenez 10- and 12 years old expressions in the Sherry Finished Collection. Each whiskey has undergone a significant period of finishing in the named style of ex-sherry cask.

All three of the whiskeys are bottled at 46% ABV and are non chill-filtered and of natural colour. The Dunville's Palo Cortado 10 years old will retail for £70/ €82, the Oloroso 20 years old for £190/ €220 and the Palo Cortado 21 years old for £195/ €227. They will be available via selected retailers throughour Ireland, the Echlinville Distillery shop and the brand website - www.echlinville.com.

Glenfarclas
The independent and family-owned Speyside distillery of Glenfarclas has announced the release of an extremely rare single malt - the Glenfarclas 50 years old. Glenfarclas is the oldest family-owned distillery in Speyside and the bottling has been created to commemorate 50 years in the business of John Grant, the current Chairman and fifth generation whisky maker. The ex-sherry casks for the bottling were selected by Callum Fraser, the Distillery Manager, and Douglas Belford, the Managing Director. These have yielded just 836 bottles, which are released at 50% ABV and are both non chill-filtered and of natural colour.

The Glenfarclas 50 years old is housed in an engraved crystal decanter by Glencairn and black presentation case. It will be available via selected UK and world luxury and whisky retailers. Each bottle will cost £9,000/ US$11,100.

"At Glenfarclas, we are proud to be able to bottle rare and limited-edition single malt whiskies, which are fundamental to our brand and story. This release is particularly special as it commemorates the 50 years I have worked in the industry since beginning in 1972."
John Grant.
