Inbox / The Week's Whisky News (December 9, 2022)

Welcome to Inbox, our weekly round up of whisky news and PR material that has found its way in to our WFE email. It was created as we cannot write full articles or do justice to every piece received. It features items from around the world of whisky and is published by us each Friday. Within Inbox we aim to write a few lines detailing each press release/piece of news/PR event that we have received and provide links, where possible, for you to find out further information.

Here is the round-up of the news from this last week.

Chivas Regal
The popular blended Scotch brand of Chivas Regal has announced the latest addition to its limited edition Wine Cask Series, which is exclusive to the travel retail market - the Chivas Regal 18 years old Margaux Cask Finish Edition. It has been created by Sandy Hyslop, the Master Blender for Chivas Regal. The new whisky has seen a finishing period in Grand Cru Margaux red wine casks and will be available in airports worldwide. The Chivas Regal 18 years old Margaux Cask Finish Edition is bottled at 48% ABV and will cost £112/ US$137.

Glasgow 1770

The Glasgow Distillery has expanded its limited edition Small Batch Series with two new expressions - the Glasgow 1770 Tokaji Cask Finish and Innis & Gunn Golden Beer Cask Finish. They follow the Tequila Cask Finish and Cognac Cask Finish, which were released earlier this year and sold out in record time.

The Innis & Gunn Golden Beer Cask Finish (pictured, above right) has been matured in first-fill ex-bourbon casks before being transferred to ex-sherry casks that had previously held Innis & Gunn Original beer for three months. It is the first time the distillery have used ex-beer casks. The whisky has been bottled at 58.5% ABV and there are just 356 bottles.

The Tokaji Cask Finish (pictured, above left) has been matured for two and a half years in ex-bourbon casks before an 18 month finishing period in ex-Tokaji sweet wine casks from Hungary. It has been bottled at 58.1% ABV and there are just 210 bottles. Both whiskies will cost £59/ US$71 and will be available in selected specialist retailers in the UK and from the distillery website.
