Inbox / The Week's Whisky News (July 21, 2023)

Welcome to Inbox, our weekly round up of whisky news and PR material that has found its way in to our WFE email. It was created as we cannot write full articles or do justice to every piece received. It features items from around the world of whisky and is published by us each Friday. Within Inbox we aim to write a few lines detailing each press release/piece of news/PR event that we have received and provide links, where possible, for you to find out further information.

Here is the round-up of the news from this week.

________

Lux Row
The Kentucky-based American whiskey distiller of Lux Row have announced a new limited edition - the Lux Row Four Grain Double Single Barrel Bourbon. The bottling sees two single barrel bourbons married together - one four years old wheated bourbon and one four years old ryed bourbon. The wheated bourbon is used to add softness and sweetness while the ryed bourbon adds spice. The limited edition will be available in specialist retailers in the USA. It is bottled at 57.5% ABV (115 Proof) and will cost $US80.

"The Lux Row Four Grain Double Single Barrel Bourbon features a ‘double single barrel mashbill’. Combining Lux Row Distillers’ two mashbills in this fashion has created a unique four-grain bourbon  that is certain to become a favorite of both ryed and wheated-bourbon drinkers."
Eric Winter / Brand Manager at Lux Row.

Speyburn

The Speyside distillery of Speyburn, which is located in the town of Rothes, will open its doors to visitors for the first time from August 1. This follows a successful series of events during the recent Spirit of Speyside festival. The new visitor experience will give guests a behind-the-scenes insight into distilling life and practises.

The tour will take in many of the original buildings from when the distillery was founded by John Hopkins in 1897. It will also feature a trip to the nearby Granty Burn, from which the distillery takes its water, a trip around one of the dunnage warehouses and the chance to see Speyburn's old drum maltings which have not been in operation for over 50 years.

Tours will run from Tuesday to Saturday at 10.30am/ 12.30pm/2.30pm and take one hour and 45 minutes. 10 guests maximum per tour. Adults £20, children aged 12 – 17 years can attend for £10. Book via www.speyburn.com/visit-us/tours or by telephone on +44 (0) 7977 706676.
