Review | Bushmills 15 years old Cognac Cask Finish

This whiskey is the latest new addition to the permanent core range of the Northern Irish distillery of Bushmills. The initial 14-year maturation of their signature triple distilled single malt has taken place in first fill and re-fill ex-bourbon barrels, before a luxurious 12-month finish in French oak ex-Cognac casks sourced from the famous Cognac region of France. It has been created by Alex Thomas, the Master Blender at Bushmills.

It has been bottled exclusively for The Friend at Hand, the award-winning whiskey shop and museum in Belfast, which is owned by Irish whiskey legend Willie Jack. Review / Teeling Single Malt

This whiskey forms part of The Unconventional Collection from Irish distiller Teeling. The Teeling Single Malt is made from 100% Irish malted barley and features a complex marriage of five cask types - the whiskey has been matured in ex-Cabernet Sauvignon and White Burgundy wine casks plus ex-Madeira, ex-Port and ex-sherry casks. These are then combined in differing percentages to create the final single malt. The Teeling Single Malt is released at 46% ABV and is both non chill-filtered and of natural colour. It is available in specialist whisky retailers and travel retail in selected markets worldwide. A bottle should cost around the £50/ €57 mark.

Review - Teeling 24 years old

This whiskey is the latest bottling in the Vintage Reserve Collection from the Teeling Whiskey Company, the leading independent Irish distiller.  The malt used to create this 24 years old expression was distilled in 1991 and has been matured in ex-bourbon casks.  It was then transferred to and finished in ex-Sauternes dessert wine casks. The whiskey is unusual as it also contains a small portion of peated malt, which is a relative rarity within the Irish whiskey genre. The Teeling Whiskey Company was founded by Irish whiskey pioneer Jack Teeling in 2012 and has won multiple awards ever since.
