Review - Exile Casks 'The Trojan'

The Trojan is the fifth bottling in the A-Z series of CaskStrength Creative, AKA whisky writers Joel Harrison and Neil Ridley.  Labelled under the Exile Casks banner this bottling representing E takes the series in a different direction and highlights 'lost' casks from distilleries. This follows previous bottlings in the form of single casks from Arran and Benriach, a cask strength version of Cutty Sark and 3D (a innovative blended malt of Dailuaine, Dalwhinnie and Dufftown). The Trojan is from an un-named Speyside distillery (apparently there is a clue to the identity on the label) and is a 25 years old single cask.

Review - Arran 18 years old

The independent Isle of Arran distillery has announced that it plans to kick off its 21st anniversary with a second release of an 18 years old expression.  This bottling is the oldest whisky to be released by the owners to date, following a limited edition batch of 18 years old that was released last year and sold out quickly.  This bottling will be a permanent fixture in the core range of Arran malts and this second version has been matured in ex-sherry casks. This 18 years old is bottled at 46% ABV, is non chill-filtered and of natural colour.  It will be available through selected specialist whisky retailers shortly and via the distillery website - www.arranwhisky.com. The recommended retail price is £75 a bottle.

Review - Glenmorangie 'Tùsail'

This whisky is a brand new single malt from Glenmorangie and is the latest release in its popular annual Private Edition series. The sixth expression, named Tùsail, marks a change in direction for the series. Most of the previous expressions have concentrated on the type of cask used during maturation - Sonnalta used Pedro Ximenez casks, Artein used Sassicaia wine barriques, Ealanta used virgin toasted oak casks and last year's Companta used French red wine barriques.  Finealta, the second release, was smoky.
