Inbox - The Week's Whisky News (November 15, 2019)

Welcome to Inbox, our weekly round up of whisky news and PR material that has found its way in to our WFE email. It was created as we cannot write full articles or do justice to every piece received. It features items from around the world of whisky and is published by us each Friday.

Within Inbox we aim to write a few lines detailing each press release/piece of news/PR event that we have received and provide links, where possible, for you to find out further information.  This is the news that has grabbed our attention this week.

________

Aberfeldy
The Highland distillery of Aberfeldy has announced the latest edition to its travel retail Exceptional Cask Series - the Aberfeldy 19 years old Sherry Finish. The new release will be exclusive to Dubai airport and has been created by Stephanie McLeod, the Aberfeldy Malt Master. She has combined ex-sherry cask matured whisky with re-fill cask matured whisky that has seen a four year finishing period in ex-Oloroso sherry casks. There are just 3,210 bottles and they have been released at 43% ABV. Each bottle will cost $150 US.

Auchentoshan
Beam Suntory, the owners of the Lowland single malt brand of Auchentoshan, have created a whisky that will be exclusive to online retailer Amazon - the Auchentoshan Sauvignon Blanc Finish. The whisky was first matured in ex-bourbon casks before being transferred for a finishing period in ex-Sauvignon Blanc white wine barriques. It is designed to 'disrupt the category' and 'appeal to urban millenials who are looking to sample new expressions'. Auchentoshan Sauvignon Blanc Finish is available to purchase from today (Nov 15) and is released at 47% ABV. A bottle will cost £50/ $64 US.

Kavalan

The King Car Corporation has announced that it is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a special single cask bottling of its popular Kavalan single malt. The cask in question is a single ex-Cabernet Sauvignon red wine barrique that was hand selected by Ian Chang, the Master Blender for Kavalan. A small pocket of stock has already been released in Taiwan with the rest due for a global release in selected countries in early 2020. No details of the number of bottles, ABV strength or price were given in the press release.
