Review | Indri Trini
Trini is the core single malt from the Indian whisky brand of Indri. The word 'indri' is derived from the name given to the five senses in the Sanskrit language, known as the indriya. The brand only uses barley grown in the northern region of Rajasthan and uses a strain of six-row barley that is indigenous to India. This is manually harvested and hand selected for malting before being distilled in traditional copper pot stills.

Review / McDowell's Reserve No.1 Indian Whisky
McDowell's Reserve No.1 is the biggest selling whisky brand in India. Not only that but it is officially the largest seller in the world (source - Drinks International 2022 report) with an incredible 30 million 12-bottle cases sold every year. Infact, the first four whiskies on the world sales list are all Indian - McDowell's is joined by Imperial Blue, Officer's Choice and Royal Stag. These four brands push Johnnie Walker into fifth place. McDowell's sells six million more cases than its closest rival. The brand is engrained in Indian culture and regularly features in Bollywood movies and cricket sponsorship. McDowell's also release popular brandy and rum expressions, plus a ready-to-drink whisky and soda.

Distillery Visit - Paul John
The Paul John distillery in Goa has been helping to to put Indian single malt on the world whisky map with a string of award-winning products. Tobias Gorn, friend of us at Whisky For Everyone, was recently invited to visit as part of his work with the IWSC and agreed to write about it for us.
________
To be invited to a distillery many miles away in Goa, India is a great honour and pleasure. The story begins when I had the recent privilege to be invited to judge at an Indian drinks competition in Mumbai; my good friend, fellow judge and whisky legend Steve Beal received an invite which he kindly extended to some fellow international judges. The kindness and generosity was greatly appreciated and I could not refuse.

Review - Rampur Select
Rampur Select is a new Indian single malt whisky that was launched in October. It made and matured in the foothills of the Himalayas and has been influenced by the extremes of temperature experienced there - blazing hot Summers and bitterly cold winters. The casks included have been hand selected by Anup Barik, the Master Blender of Rampur. The Select is bottled at 43% ABV and is non chill-filtered. It is available in specialist whisky retailers in selected worldwide markets including Germany, Ghana, Hong Kong, Japan, Kenya, Malaysia, Singapore, Uganda, the UK and the USA. The recommended retail price is £41.95 per bottle.
