Allotment Dram / Episode #100

It is unbelievable to think that our lockdown side project has reached its 100th episode. Watch as Matt talks about the idea behind the Allotment Dram and then takes a look back over the previous 99 episodes. And he has selected a suitably decadent whisky to sip and savour as he does ...

We would like to thank everyone that has watched, liked and commented on our Allotment Dram videos over the last 16 months and look forward to the next 100 episodes.

Review / The Singleton of Dufftown 54 years old 'Paragon of Time'

This rare whisky is the second and final release in Diageo's The Singleton Paragon of Time Collection. The Singleton of Dufftown 54 years old is the oldest ever single malt to be bottled by the company or the Speyside distillery of Dufftown. The whisky was distilled in 1966 and was filled to a European oak cask that has yielded just 235 bottles. The cask was selected by Maureen Robinson, the Master Blender for The Singleton, who gave it a final carefully monitored and short finishing period in a single ex-Pedro Ximenez sherry cask.

Welcome to Inbox, our weekly round up of whisky news and PR material that has found its way in to our WFE email. It was created as we cannot write full articles or do justice to every piece received. It features items from around the world of whisky and is published by us each Friday. Within Inbox we aim to write a few lines detailing each press release/piece of news/PR event that we have received and provide links, where possible, for you to find out further information.

Review - Diageo Special Releases 2020

It is that time of the year again - Diageo, Scotland's largest whisky producer, has announced the line-up for the 2020 edition of its Special Releases programme. The annual bottlings are designed to highlight rare or old whiskies from within Diageo's extensive portfolio of maturing stocks and are eagerly anticipated each year since the series was first started with just three expressions in 2001.

This year is one of the smaller recent collections and sees just eight bottlings with a theme of 'Rare By Nature' running through them. This includes the same eight brands as the 2019 selection and is designed to be 'an encore to what was a very successful and well received set of whiskies'. As with all previous years the whiskies are all bottled at their natural cask strength. This year's selection has been curated by Dr. Craig Wilson, one of the Master Blenders at Diageo.

Review - Diageo Prima & Ultima Collection

The Prima & Ultima Collection are a new set of super-premium old and rare whiskies collated from around its extensive estate of Diageo, Scotland's largest produced of whisky. There are eight whiskies in total and each bottling is either the first or the last of its kind from a distillery - this marks a particular point or story in history of each place. They have been selected by whisky industry legend Dr. Jim Beveridge OBE, a 40-year veteran at Diageo and senior member of the blending team.

Allotment Dram - The Singleton of Dufftown 12 Years Old

For those of you that follow us on Instagram (if you're not, why not? - click the tab at the top of the right hand column), you will know that we regularly post pictures of our 'allotment dram' - the whisky we are enjoying whenever we visit our allotment in North London to do some work or gardening. In these strange times, we have decided to bring this to life and record a brief tasting of each one, along with an update on the allotment's progress.

Join Matt as he visits the allotment on an overcast and muggy Spring day and chats about what he has been doing, then samples The Singleton of Dufftown 12 years old - a classic single malt from the 'whisky capital of Speyside'. Apologies for the quality of sound at times, but we hope you still enjoy it.
