Inbox - The Week's Whisky News (March 8, 2019)

Welcome to Inbox, our weekly round up of whisky news and PR material that has found its way in to our WFE email. It was created as we cannot write full articles or do justice to every piece received. It features items from around the world of whisky and is published by us each Friday.

Within Inbox we aim to write a few lines detailing each press release/piece of news/PR event that we have received and provide links, where possible, for you to find out further information.  This is the news that has grabbed our attention this week.

________

Ardbeg
The Islay distillery of Ardbeg has announced details of this year's Committee Release special bottling, named Ardbeg Drum. This bottling is only available to Ardbeg Committee members with a lower ABV version to be available in domestic retailers closer to Ardbeg Day, which is on June 1 this year. Ardbeg Drum is a limited edition single malt that started its maturation in ex-bourbon casks before being transferred to ex-rum casks from the Caribbean for a period of finishing. This is the first ever expression of Ardbeg to feature ex-rum casks.

This Committee Release is bottled at 52% ABV and is non chill-filtered. It was on sale for £94 each with the exact number of bottles not revealed. Sadly it has already sold out. For all information about Ardbeg or to join the Committee, which is free of charge, please visit www.ardbeg.com.

Benromach
The small Speyside distillery of Benromach have revealed a limited edition whisky that uses some of their rare heavily peated spirit. The Benromach Peat Smoke Sherry Matured uses spirit that was made using heavily peated barley and filled to first-fill ex-sherry hogshead casks in 2010. It was then matured and bottled in late 2018. Just 6,500 bottles will be available in specialist whisky retailers in selected markets worldwide. It has been bottled at the natural cask strength of 59.9% ABV and is of natural colour and non chill-filtered. A bottle will cost £65/€75.

"This is the first time that Benromach has released a sherried Peat Smoke expression and we’re very proud of its flavour profile. This expression perfectly balances the smokiness with the sweeter sherry notes, giving rise to a spectacularly rich and intense dram."
Keith Cruickshank - Distillery Manager at Benromach.

Tamdhu
The Speyside distillery of Tamdhu have announced a new single malt that will be in its core range. The Tamdhu 15 years old will be available via specialist domestic retailers and has been matured in ex-Oloroso sherry casks made from American and European oak. It will sit alongside the 10 and 12 year old expressions, plus the Batch Strength in the domestic core range. The Tamdhu 15 years old is bottled at 46% ABV and is non chill-filtered and of natural colour. It will be available globally and each bottle will cost £85. For more information, please visit www.tamdhu.com.

"All our whisky at Tamdhu is exclusively matured in the finest Oloroso sherry seasoned oak casks. When you taste a dram of this new Tamdhu 15 Year Old, you can really taste the time and care that has gone in to creating this incredible whisky."
Sandy McIntyre - Distillery Manager at Tamdhu.
