Inbox - The Week's Whisky News (March 27, 2020)

Welcome to Inbox, our weekly round up of whisky news and PR material that has found its way in to our WFE email. It was created as we cannot write full articles or do justice to every piece received. It features items from around the world of whisky and is published by us each Friday. Within Inbox we aim to write a few lines detailing each press release/piece of news/PR event that we have received and provide links, where possible, for you to find out further information.

In these unprecedented times, and for the foreseeable future, there may not be much brand news or many (if any) new releases. However, we will bring news whenever there is any and also be updating the blog regularly with reviews and tasting notes.

Most news this week has been about whisky companies supporting the bar trade with money or the health services with alcohol for sanitation products. Outside of that, there have been a couple of new releases reported ...

________

Ardbeg
The Islay single malt distillery of Ardbeg have decided to proceed as planned with the release of a new core range expression 'to give people a little good news'. The Ardbeg Wee Beastie is bottled at 5 years of age and is the youngest and feistiest Ardbeg to be made available in recent times. The whisky is the latest to be named after one of Islay's many historical legends that range from mystical sea creatures to elusive and reclusive hill dwelling half-beings.

The Wee Beastie has been a secret project led by Dr. Bill Lumsden, the Director of Whisky Creation at Ardbeg. Both ex-bourbon and ex-Oloroso sherry casks have been used for maturation and it is bottled at 47.4% ABV. It is non chill-filtered and of natural colour. The Ardbeg Wee Beastie 5 years old will be available in selected markets worldwide from mid-April and the UK from May. The recommended price is £39/ $48 US.

"I am in no doubt that people will love this tongue-tingling expression. The casks chosen for its creation make it ideal for enjoying neat or as the mouth-watering main ingredient in a powerfully smoky cocktail. It is a monster of a dram… with a formidable bite!"
Dr. Bill Lumsden

Douglas Laing & Co.
The family owned independent bottler of Douglas Laing & Co. have announced the first ever release of The Easter Edition in to their single cask Old Particular range. It has been released now to celebrate the arrival of Spring and to offer some much needed hope in these difficult times. The cask selected is 22 years of age and is a single grain whisky distilled at Invergordon. It has been bottled at the natural cask strength of 48.9% ABV and is non chill-filtered and of natural colour. There are just 155 bottles and these will be available exclusively via www.douglaslaing.com. Each will cost £89 + postage with shipping available within the UK, Europe and selected Asian markets.
