Inbox - The Week's Whisky News (August 14, 2020)

Welcome to Inbox, our weekly round up of whisky news and PR material that has found its way in to our WFE email. It was created as we cannot write full articles or do justice to every piece received. It features items from around the world of whisky and is published by us each Friday. Within Inbox we aim to write a few lines detailing each press release/piece of news/PR event that we have received and provide links, where possible, for you to find out further information. Here is the news from this week ...

Douglas Laing
The independent bottler and whisky maker of Douglas Laing & Co. have announced the latest limited edition for The Epicurean, their Lowland blended malt brand. The Epicurean whiskies feature only Lowland single malts and the new Rivesaltes Wine Cask Finish is the third release in the brand's Wood Series. The whisky was first matured in American oak barrels before being transferred to wine casks sourced from the town of Rivesaltes in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of France. The Epicurean Rivesaltes Wine Cask Finish is bottled at 48% ABV and is non chill-filtered and of natural colour. A bottle will cost £60/ $79 US.

Nc'Nean

The pioneering organic whisky distillery of Nc'Nean, which is located on a remote peninsula on the west coast of Scotland, has announced that it is to auction off the first 10 bottles of its inaugural single malt. The first release of Nc'Nean Ainnir consisted of just 1,320 and they sold out in 36 hours. It was a marriage of just five single casks and was bottled at the natural cask strength of 60.3% ABV.

However, bottle numbers 1-10 were held back and will now help raise money for local charities on the Morven peninsula and the wider hospitality industry - these include Trees for Life, The Drinks Trust, The Ben, The Scottish Farm Land Trust and Morvern Community Trust. The auction will be held by Whisky Auctioneer between August 14th and 17th.

"Our first ever whisky was a long time coming and I think it is really important to give back to the community that has supported us along our spirits journey and industry organisations."
Annabel Thomas - Founder of Nc'Nean.

Smokehead

Ian Macleod Distillers have announced the latest addition to their increasingly popular Smokehead range - the Smokehead Rum Rebel. The Islay single malt, which is sourced from an un-named distillery on the famous whisky island, has seen a finishing period in ex-rum barrels from the Caribbean.

It has been launched in time to celebrate International Rum Day on August 16th. It joins the Smokehead Original, High Voltage and Sherry Bomb expressions in the range. The Smokehead Rum Rebel is bottled at 46% ABV and will be available at selected UK whisky specialists. A bottle will cost £55/ $72 US.
