The Islay distillery of Bowmore has teamed up with luxury car brand Aston Martin for the latest release of their legendary Black Bowmore release. The Black Bowmore DB5 1964 brings together the two iconic brands and features a bottle that is part hand-blown glass and part piston from an Aston Martin DB5. The whisky was distilled on November 5, 1964 and has been maturing in Bowmore's Warehouse No.1, the oldest duty warehouse in the UK, in an ex-Oloroso sherry butt.
There are just 25 bottles available in what is the sixth edition of the Black Bowmore series. These have been created by contemporary Scottish glass studio Glasstorm and housed in a handmade carying casket featuring embossed calfskin, bespoke brass clasps and hinges, and nickel plating. The whisky has been bottled at the natural cask strength of 49.6% ABV. Each bottle of the Black Bowmore DB5 1964 will cost £50,000/ $65,725 US and they will be available in the Autumn.
The independent bottler and whisky makers of Douglas Laing & Co. have announced a limited edition of their popular blended malt Rock Island. The Rock Island Sherry Edition has been created using single malts from the islands of Arran, Islay, Jura and Orkney. These were married together and then finished in specially selected Spanish ex-sherry butts. It has been bottled at 46.8% ABV and is non chill-filtered and of natural colour. The Rock Island Sherry Edition will be available from specialist retailers globally and via the website www.douglaslaing.com. No indication of the number of bottles was given in the press release. The price will be £46/ $60 US.

Lark
The Australian distillery of Lark has announced the launch of its first ever blended malt - the Lark Symphony No.1. The whisky has Lark's own single malt at its heart and also features single malts from other Tasmanian distillers. It has been created by Chris Thomson, the Head Distiller & Blender at Lark, and is bottled at 40.2% ABV. A 50cl bottle will cost $139 AUS/ $100 US and is available via www.larkdistilling.com and Dan Murphy stores across Australia.
