Inbox - The Week's Whisky News (August 21, 2020)

Welcome to Inbox, our weekly round up of whisky news and PR material that has found its way in to our WFE email. It was created as we cannot write full articles or do justice to every piece received. It features items from around the world of whisky and is published by us each Friday. Within Inbox we aim to write a few lines detailing each press release/piece of news/PR event that we have received and provide links, where possible, for you to find out further information. Here is the news from this week ...

________

Angel's Envy
The Louisville-based brand of Angel's Envy has launched a new Founder's Collection range and announced the first limited edition whiskey in that range - the Angel's Envy Straight Bourbon Finished in Japanese Mizunara Oak Casks. The whiskey is a blend of Angel's Envy bourbons aged four and nine years, which have been finished in Japanese mizunara oak casks for two years. The release marks the 10th anniversary for the brand since they filled their first casks. It is released at 48.9% ABV (98.8 Proof) and is limited to just 1,200 bottles. Each bottle will cost $350 US and will be available from September 1 at the Angel's Envy distillery in Louisville and selected retailers in Kentucky.

Bowmore
The Islay distillery of Bowmore has announced the second expression in its Chinese Mythical Guardians Series - the Bowmore 37 years old Fenghuang Edition. This pays homage to Fenghuang, a mythological creature that is a symbol of grace and virtue. It features whisky matured in second-fill ex-sherry casks for over 30 years, before a three year finishing period in first-fill ex-sherry casks. It follows the 36 years old Dragon Edition that was released in 2019. The Bowmore 37 years old Fenghuang Edition is bottled at the natural cask strength of 52.1% ABV and there are just 888 bottles available. There are two further editions planned for the series. It will be available exclusively in China and will cost $2,200 US/ £1,675/ ¥15,220 CNY.

Johnnie Walker

The best selling Scotch whisky brand of Johnnie Walker has continued its 200th anniversary celebrations by revealing limited edition bottle designs for their three most popular core range blended whiskies - the Johnnie Walker Red Label, Black Label and Gold Label. Each design features an opaque wrap around and pays homage to the brand's famous slanted labels. All three bottles will cost the same as their regular counterparts and will be available shortly in retailers worldwide.
