Review - Smokehead Rum Rebel

This whisky is the latest addition to the increasingly popular Smokehead range from Ian Macleod Distillers. The Islay single malt, which is sourced from an un-named distillery on the famous whisky island, has seen a finishing period in ex-rum barrels from the Caribbean. It was launched in time to celebrate International Rum Day on August 16th. It joins the Smokehead Original, High Voltage and Sherry Bomb expressions in the core domestic range and the Extra Rare and Rum Riot in the travel retail range. All carry no age statement.

Review - Tamdhu 15 years old

The Tamdhu 15 years old is a new core range single malt from the increasingly popular Speyside distillery. The whisky has been matured in ex-Oloroso sherry casks made from American and European oak. These were selected by Sandy McIntyre, the Distillery Manager at Tamdhu, and then married together. The new expression will sit alongside the 10 and 12 year olds, plus the Batch Strength in the domestic core range. Tamdhu is becoming well known for its use of ex-sherry casks and last year saw their award-winning Spain To Speyside campaign take many plaudits. To watch the short film - click here.

Review - Glengoyne Legacy : Chapter One

This whisky kicks off a new series from Glengoyne. The Legacy Series is launched to show key points in the distillery's history and some of the influential people and stories that have shaped its heritage. A new bottling will be released annually going forwards. Chapter One honour Cochrane Cartwright, a former Distillery Manager who arrived in 1869. During his tenure he introduced the slower distillation time that Glengoyne still follows today. He also introduced the use of ex-sherry barrels during maturation and Chapter One reflects this - it has been matured in first-fill ex-Oloroso sherry casks.
