Inbox - The Week's Whisky News (November 13, 2020)

Welcome to Inbox, our weekly round up of whisky news and PR material that has found its way in to our WFE email. It was created as we cannot write full articles or do justice to every piece received. It features items from around the world of whisky and is published by us each Friday. Within Inbox we aim to write a few lines detailing each press release/piece of news/PR event that we have received and provide links, where possible, for you to find out further information. Here is the news from this week ...

Blue Spot
Irish Distillers and Mitchell & Son have announced the completion of re-establishing the Spot Whiskey range with the release of Blue Spot. It joins the other members of its historical family - Green Spot, Yellow Spot 12 years old and Red Spot 15 years old. The new version of Blue Spot is bottled at 7 years of age and is bottled at the natural cask strength of 58.7% ABV. It is a marriage of single pot still whiskeys that have been matured in ex-bourbon, ex-Madeira wine and ex-Oloroso sherry casks, and features whiskeys aged between seven and 20 years of age. The first batch consists of just over 20,000 bottles.

The launch marks the first time the four whiskeys in the Spot Whiskeys range have been together since the 1960s. Blue Spot 7 years old Cask Strength is non chill-filtered and will be available in selected international markets including Canada, France, Ireland and the UK. The USA will follow in Spring 2021. A bottle will cost €80/ £72/ $95 US.

Glen Scotia
The Campbeltown distillery of Glen Scotia have announced a new limited edition single malt for their range - the Glen Scotia 11 years old Sherry Double Cask Finish. The new whisky is formed from first-fill ex-bourbon barrels that were filled with unpeated spirit in 2008, which were then split between ex-Oloroso and ex-Pedro Ximenez sherry casks for a finishing period. It was then married back together in ex-bourbon casks before bottling at the natural cask strength of 54.1% ABV. It is also non chill-filtered and of natural colour.

The Glen Scotia 11 years old Sherry Double Cask Finish has just 15,000 bottles and these will be available via online and specialist whisky retailers worldwide. A bottle will cost £65/ $86 US.

Haig Club
The single grain Scotch whisky brand of Haig Club have revealed a limited edition festive bottle design for their Clubman expression. The abstract gold and blue bauble imagery brings a Christmas twist to Clubman's square bottle. The liquid inside remains the same. The new design will be available online and through various UK supermarkets including Sainsbury's and Tesco until Christmas or sold out, whichever comes first. Bottle will cost £25. Johnnie Walker

The best selling Scotch whisky brand of Johnnie Walker continues its 200th anniversary celebrations with the launch of a new documentary looking at the history, social impact and culture surrounding the brand. The Man Who Walked Around The World has been created by award-winning director Anthony Wonke, who uncovered previously untold stories and perspectives on how Johnnie Walker has constantly overcome adversity with optimism so as to cement its place in culture as a global icon.

The documentary features a cast of whisky experts and celebrities but is described as 'more than just a whisky history lesson'. For further information on how and where to watch the documentary, please visit www.themanwho.film or watch the trailer above.
