Review - Benromach Peat Smoke Sherry Cask Matured
This limited edition whisky is from the small Speyside distillery of Benromach and uses some of their rare heavily peated spirit. The Benromach Peat Smoke Sherry Matured uses spirit that was made using heavily peated barley, which they only produce for a short period each year, and then filled to first-fill ex-sherry hogshead casks. The spirit used was distilled and filled to cask in 2018 and bottled in late 2018. Just 6,500 bottles will be available in specialist whisky retailers in selected markets worldwide. It has been bottled at the natural cask strength of 59.9% ABV and is of natural colour and non chill-filtered. A bottle will cost £65/€75.

This whisky is the annual Committee Release from the renowned Islay distillery of Ardbeg. The special bottling, named Ardbeg Drum for 2019, is only available to Ardbeg Committee members. A lower ABV version will be available in domestic retailers closer to Ardbeg Day, which is on June 1 this year. Ardbeg Drum is a limited edition single malt that started its maturation in American oak ex-bourbon casks before being transferred to ex-rum casks from the Caribbean for a period of finishing. Review - Glengoyne Legacy : Chapter One
This whisky kicks off a new series from Glengoyne. The Legacy Series is launched to show key points in the distillery's history and some of the influential people and stories that have shaped its heritage. A new bottling will be released annually going forwards. Chapter One honour Cochrane Cartwright, a former Distillery Manager who arrived in 1869. During his tenure he introduced the slower distillation time that Glengoyne still follows today. He also introduced the use of ex-sherry barrels during maturation and Chapter One reflects this - it has been matured in first-fill ex-Oloroso sherry casks.

Review - Westland Garryana 2018 Edition 3/1
This whiskey is the third in a series of an annual special release from the American distillery of Westland. This series uses casks made from Quercus Garryana, a regional species of oak that grows in the Pacific NorthWest coastal states of America. The series are believed to be the first whiskeys matured using this type of oak for nearly a century.
This third edition has used Westland's classic style spirit (made using their 5-Malt combination of different barleys) and a small percentage of their peated malt spirit. As well as using the Garryana oak casks this whiskey also uses pockets of spirit matured in virgin oak, first-fill ex-bourbon, first-fill ex-Port and refill ex-Westland whiskey casks. These are then marreid together to create the final whiskey.

Review - Port Askaig 34 years old
This whisky is a new single cask single malt released by Elixir Distillers under their popular and award-winning Port Askaig name. The cask in question is an American oak ex-bourbon hogshead. While the distillery remains un-named, clues to its origin are given in the press release - the whisky was produced at Islay's largest distillery, which is situated just to the north of the village of Port Askaig. It was also distilled and filled to the single cask in 1983, and has been bottled at 34 years of age.
