Welcome to Inbox, our weekly round up of whisky news and PR material that has found its way in to our WFE email. It was created as we cannot write full articles or do justice to every piece received. It features items from around the world of whisky and is published by us each Friday. Within Inbox we aim to write a few lines detailing each press release/piece of news/PR event that we have received and provide links, where possible, for you to find out further information. Here is the news from this week ...

Benriach
The Speyside distillery of Benriach has announced a major revamp of both its packaging and core range of single malts. The new range is designed to showcase Benriach's unique eclectic range of casks from around the world and three different spirit styles that are produced their - classic Speyside, peated Speyside and triple distilled Speyside. The range has been entirely created by Dr. Rachel Barrie, the Master Blender for Benriach.

The range now features The Original Ten and The Twelve, both classic Speyside spirit at 10 and 12 years of age respectively, plus The Smoky Ten and The Smoky Twelve - both released at the same ages using the peated malt that is produced at the distillery for a short time each year. There is also age statements higher in the range at 21, 25 and 30 years of age.

The travel retail Cask Editions - the Triple Distilled Ten, Quarter Cask and Smoky Quarter Cask - will also be repackaged but the whiskies will remain the same. The new packaging draws influence from the first ever official bottling of Benriach that was released in 1994. The whiskies will be gradually introduced to world markets from mid-September.

"The new range perfectly marries the tradition and innovation that is central to Benriach’s story. These new whiskies are for those open to new possibilities, building on a wealth of experience and traditional techniques. I invite the drinker to join me on this creative journey."
Dr. Rachel Barrie.

Fettercairn
The east Highland distillery of Fettercairn has announced a limited edition rare single malt to join its ever expanding range - the Fettercairn 46 years old. The whisky is taken from a single cask that was filled on May 8, 1973. This was an American white oak cask that housed the whisky for over four decades, before being transferred to ex-Tawny Port casks for its final four years.

There are just 55 bottles available of this new expression and these are released at the natural cask strength of 42.5% ABV. It is housed in a bespoke wooden casket with copper detailing and is both non chill-filtered and of natural colour. The Fettercairn 46 years old will be available in selected specialist whisky retailers globally from mid-September and will cost £8,500/ $11,000 US.

"This is a truly scarce and special single malt; a celebration of the years of passion and commitment which are inherent to the way Fettercairn Distillery has always been. We are fortunate to have such incredible treasures in our warehouses to share with whisky drinkers."
Kirsteen Beeston - Head of Malts at Whyte & Mackay.

Glengoyne

Owners Ian Macleod Distillers have revealed a refreshed and updated look for their Glengoyne single malt brand. The new identity is centred around a redesign of the distillery's logo of a goose and also features design elements inspired by the slow time taken to distil spirit at Glengoyne.

The new design and packaging will be used for the core range of single malts and will be rolled out globally over the coming months. The packaging is also made 100% recyclable materials, most of which have been sourced locally from Scotland.

"As one of Scotland’s greenest distilleries it was extremely important to us that our commitment to sustainability was reflected in the new packaging, as well as giving us a platform to communicate the unique processes and people behind our whisky".
Katy Muggeridge - Senior Brand Manager for Glengoyne.

The announcement coincides with the release of two limited edition whiskies - the Glengoyne Legacy Series : Chapter Two and the Glengoyne Cask Strength Batch No. 008. The Legacy bottling is released at 48% ABV and has been matured in first-fill ex-bourbon and re-fill ex-sherry casks.
