Inbox - The Week's Whisky News (September 18, 2020)

Welcome to Inbox, our weekly round up of whisky news and PR material that has found its way in to our WFE email. It was created as we cannot write full articles or do justice to every piece received. It features items from around the world of whisky and is published by us each Friday. Within Inbox we aim to write a few lines detailing each press release/piece of news/PR event that we have received and provide links, where possible, for you to find out further information. Here is the news from this week ...

Dalmore

The north Highland distillery of Dalmore have announced the release of two limited editions in their Distillery Exclusives range - the Dalmore 2006 Vintage and Dalmore 2003 Vintage. Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic these are being made available outside of the distillery for the first time via a partnership with luxury retailer Harrods. Both whiskies have been selected by Richard Paterson, the Master Blender for Dalmore who has just celebrated 50 years working for parent company Whyte & Mackay.

The Dalmore 2006 Vintage has been matured in American white oak ex-bourbon casks and ex-Marsala wine casks, and is bottled at the natural cask strength of 55.8% ABV. There are just 450 bottles and each will cost £200. The Dalmore 2003 Vintage has been matured in American white oak ex-bourbon casks and ex-Premier Grand Cru wine casks from Bordeaux. It is released at the natural cask strength of 55.2% ABV. There are just 100 bottles with each costing £1,500. Both whiskies are of natural colour and non-chill filtered.

"For 50 years I have been keeping a watchful eye on our whiskies as they mature in the finest casks from around the world. These whiskies are offered at cask strength and are our gift to you from our magical distillery in the Scottish Highlands."
Richard Paterson.

Lagavulin
The Islay distillery of Lagavulin is to continue its sponsorship of the Islay Jazz Festival and has announced this year's special limited edition bottling - the Lagavulin 22 years old Jazz Festival Edition.  The whisky is released at this age to celebrate the 22 years that the annual festival has been held on the Hebridean island. This will be broadcast online this year for the first time ever via the Lagavulin and Friends of the Classic Malts Facebook pages from October 3. It has been matured in both re-fill American and European oak casks, before some of the whisky has undergone a further finished period in ex-red wine casks.

The Lagavulin 22 years old Jazz Festival Edition is bottled at the natural cask strength of 52.6% ABV and there are just 2,004 bottles available. These can only be purchased from the distillery shop on Islay. Bottles will cost £405 each.

"The Islay Jazz Festival has become a pilgrimage for many whisky and jazz lovers alike. This is my first festival as Distillery Manager and although we are unable to host the event on Islay, we wanted to honour the occasion by creating a remarkable whisky."
Pierrick Guillaume.
